Back to School 2021-22

Welcome Back, Wildcats!

Important Dates

Monday, August 23rd is the first day of school!  School hours return to 8:10 - 2:55.      View the 21-22 Bell Schedule

Student Schedules: Student schedules are now available in SIS Parent VUE and Student VUE. Students will report to their first period class on the first day of school.

Bus Schedules: Bus schedules are now available in SIS Parent VUE and Student Vue.  Please continue to check for changes because some updates might be made before Monday.  If the route is not available at this time, please continue to check back over the weekend.

Registering for SIS Parent VUE: It is important that parents and students are able to access your SIS account.  The Student Information System (SIS) supports all aspects of a student’s educational experience and includes demographic data and information related to scheduling, attendance, discipline, health, grades, test results, and academic programs.  SIS is a secure, web-based system accessible by staff, students, and parents. Visit this website to learn more about registering for your SIS account.

Required Forms and Digital Consent: It is important that we have updated emergency and health forms for all our students.  Please be sure to complete the required return to school forms such as the emergency care form and digital consent form at this link on the school website.

Attendance: Information about CVHS attendance policies and reporting absences can be found on the school website here.

Back to School Night: Back to School Night will take place on Wednesday, September 1 beginning at 7pm at CVHS.  Upon entering the building, please report to your student’s first period class for video messages followed by an opportunity to transition through the schedule and meet all your student’s teachers.  Please bring a copy of your student’s schedule.  Teachers will also be creating brief video messages that will be posted on the school website for those who cannot attend in-person.

Senior Parent Meeting: There will be a meeting for parents of seniors at 6pm in the auditorium preceding back to school night on Wed, Sept 1.  Students may also attend the meeting if they wish.  The meeting will primarily focus on tips for the College Application process; student deadlines, application portals, official transcript requests, recommendations needed, etc...

Masks: Properly fitting masks will be required at school by everyone at all times while indoors and on the bus.  More information about this and other safety considerations including COVID-19 exposure protocols can be found here on the FCPS website.

Schedule & Calendar: The CVHS bell schedule and A/B day calendar can be found at this link.

Parking Passes: Here is information about student parking passes and Kiss & Ride.  Be prepared for heavy traffic as school begins.  People will need time to adjust to the new routine.  Plan to arrive early and avoid the stress.  Be careful when driving in the school zone!

Laptops: Student laptops were distributed to students through their English classes during the first week of school beginning on Aug 25 & 26.

Lockers: Student lockers will be available by request.  There is a link posted on the school website to make a locker request.

Lunch: All students are able to receive both breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria at no cost this year.  Families who qualify for free or reduced price meals are still asked to complete the application in this link as many other services are available beyond lunch. Please see the points below about lunch and safety:

  • Students will be required to wear masks in the cafeteria when not actively eating and drinking.
  • They will need to wear their masks while going through the serving line.
  • Students will put their mask back on when they finish their meal.
  • Cafeteria spaces will be regularly and thoroughly cleaned with a sanitizing solution.
  • It is recommended that students wash their hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer before and after eating.
  • FCPS Food Nutrition Services works closely with the Fairfax County Health Department to ensure proper food safety and sanitation.

Because most students (99.5%) will be back for in-person learning, physical distancing will not be possible in most classrooms, hallways, or in the cafeteria. We do have limited outdoor seating spaces, which will also be used on days when the weather is good. Students will not be required to face the same direction when eating lunch, as was the requirement last year. This kind of layout will simply not allow the cafeteria to accommodate all students.

Schoology: CVHS along with other FCPS schools is transitioning to Schoology as our new learning management system replacing Blackboard 24/7.  Teachers are busy learning the new platform, and will be sharing more information with students as the year gets started.  Teachers use Schoology to post their classroom materials online; to provide a safe forum for students to discuss their ideas and collaborate on projects; and to assign and collect school work digitally. It helps students stay organized and it keeps the class connected.

Schoology Parent Accounts: A Schoology Parent Account gives you access to:

  • Your child’s classes.
  • Your child’s upcoming assignments.
  • Class announcements.

Parent accounts will be available in mid-August. To access Schoology, parents will need to have an active SIS/ParentVUE account. To learn more about Schoology you can visit this website.

Water Bottle: We encourage students to bring a reusable water bottle.  Water bottle filling stations are available throughout the building.
